When carrying steel products by sea, it is essential to ensure that neither the steel nor the ship suffers damage, that the ship is fit to receive cargo and that the cargo is safely stowed and secured. Steel is a high-value cargo, a cargo easily damaged by rough handling, water and moisture. Its weight presents substantial challenges with stowage and securing. Incorrect stowage can lead to hull and cargo damage. Damage can occur during bad weather, when hatch covers leak, or when cargo moves, or when incorrect ventilation procedures are followed. Damage can also occur before loading while the cargo is in storage or in transit from the mill to the ship. The Customers usually arrange preloading surveys to check the condition of steel before loading to ensure that the goods are corresponded to the specification and in apparently good condition.
Pre-shipment inspection (PSI)
It is important that the cargo condition is examined before loading to the vessel. Physical condition of steel products prior to loading ensures that the goods are in accordance with contractual conditions and specifications. Description of apparent damage, rust condition, packing, marking, dimensions is being carefully noted. Pre-shipment inspection allows the customers to have own assessment of the goods and take necessary precautions against insufficient packing, damages or marking if the case.
Quality and Quantity inspection
TCI group provides 24 hrs monitoring of the goods during handling operations. Proper loading, stowing and securing of the goods under TCI supervision always keeps our customers on the safe side against collapsing, squeezing and shifting in the ship’s holds.
Insufficiently strapped or badly damaged products due to rough storage or handling do not allowed to cross the railing of the ship without being repaired under TCI supervision.
Our tally team ensures that goods load in compliance with shipping documents and it allows our customers to avoid shortage at destination.
Color Marking and Labeling
In some cases additional color marking and/or labeling are required in order to easily identify the certain parcel at discharge port. Some countries require certain labeling of the goods which is not always comply with Mill’s one. TCI ensures quick producing of the labels/tags and proper attaching before and during loading operations.
